Step 2 Use a program like WinZip to extract the contents to a temporary directory

Step 3 Double-click the .exe file you extracted in the step above - the installer will start. If you do not have administrator rights on your PC, the installer will exit.

Step 4 Follow the on-screen prompts to install the NZ Maps onto your PC - take note of the directory where you have installed them to.

Step 6 Open the directory where you unzipped SendMap and double-click on SendMap.exe

Step 7 SendMap will start - click on the 'Add maps' button

Step 8 Navigate to the directory where your maps are stored. Select all except the 'NZOGPSMHS.img' and 'NZOEXTEND.img' files (they are MapSource Preview files and are not used by the GPS). Then click on the 'Open' button.

Step 9 The MapSend screen should now look like the screen to the right. If you are using a GPS with 8mb of memory (i.e. Legend) remove the maps marked 'Extended' as they will not fit on your GPS at the same time as the other maps - you can experiment with different combinations of maps if you want but do not exceed 8mb of maps to upload if your GPS only has 8mb - it won't work!

Step 10 Plug the GPS serial cable into the GPS and ensure the GPS is turned on. In SendMap click on the 'Upload selected maps to GPS' button.

Step 11 A DOS window will appear and connect to your GPS. It will report progress as the maps upload. Over a serial link the full map set will take approx 16-17 minutes to upload. When the upload reaches 100% the GPS will go through it's normal power-up routine. Check that the maps have uploaded successfully by checking out the Map Setup menu.
NB - to
view the maps on your GPS - you
must 'pan' over to NZ to see the maps on your GPS if you are loading
the maps from an overseas location. Your GPS always shows the location
where *you*
are, not of the maps you have just uploaded.
|
| Verification that the maps are loaded. | |
Step 12 On your GPS go to the Map screen, go to the 'Setup Map' menu

Step 13 Look in the map list. If there are maps listed as shown, there are already maps loaded. If there is nothing in the list you are running off the basemap without any others loaded. NB - you must 'pan' over to NZ to see the maps on your GPS if you are loading the maps from an overseas location. Your GPS always shows the location where *you* are, not of the maps you have just uploaded.
